'PCS' and other military relocation terms

ERA American has talked a lot in our Florida Military Relocation blog so far about "PCSing" to and from the local Northwest Florida military bases, including Eglin AFB, Hurlburt Field, Camp Rudder, Duke Field, NAS Pensacola, NAS Whiting Field and Destin Coast Guard Station.

Having had some questions about what exactly PCS means, we'll take a closer look.

"PCS" is a military acronym for "Permanent Change of Station." It is used in the cases of military members who move from one military station to another. These military members are given many entitlements for the move.

Per About.com, the entitlements include:
  • House Hunting Trip Prior to Move
  • Temporary Lodging Expense (TLE)
  • Temporary Lodging Allowance (TLA)
  • Dislocation Allowance
  • Per Diem for PCS Travel
  • Travel by Privately Owned Conveyence (POC)
  • Dependent Travel within CONUS by other than POC
  • Dependent Travel Outside CONUS
  • Household Goods Transportation
  • Damage Claims
  • Limited Household Goods Transportation Overseas
  • Nontemporary Storage of Household Goods
  • Additional Consumables Allowance
  • Mobile Home Transportation
  • Transportation of Privately Owned Vehicles (POV)
  • POC Storage
About.com takes a closer look at these entitlements here.

These PCS entitlements are facilitated by the military. For those that are not, like searching for homes and real estate in Northwest Florida upon taking the House Hunting Trip Prior to Move, ERA American Realty of Northwest Florida can help.
